     - REQUIEM FOR THE LIVING, a new work by Dan Forrest "exploring modern life themes within the framework of a traditional Requiem mass," featuring an orchestra made up of members of the NC Symphony, 4/9 at 6:30 PM, Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh. free

     -THE MUSIC OF ALEXANDER GOEHR: The UNC Department of Music presents a concert of works by prominent contemporary composer Alexander Goehr, featuring Louise Toppin (soprano), Christin Danchi (violin), Katharina Uhde (viola), Saar Berger (French horn), Ib Hausmann (clarinet), Axel Bauni (piano), Clara Yang (piano), and Stefan Litwin (piano). This event headlines of a week-long UNC-Chapel Hill residency by Goehr as part of the Department’s Talking Music Series. 4/9 at 7:30 pm, Person Recital Hall. free

     - NEW WORKS FOR PERCUSSION, featuring UNC music professors Juan Álamo (percussion), Brooks de Wetter-Smith (flute), Brent Wissick (cello), guest artist Tracy Cowden (Virginia Tech University), and the UNC Percussion Ensemble (Juan Álamo, director) for a recital of new percussion works, including the world premiere of compositions by Lee Weisert, Lucio Cuellar, and Kit Mills. 4/10 at 8 PM, Hill Hall. free

     - PAVEL HAAS STRING QUARTET, (aka "the most exciting quartet in the world" according to The Times of London) playing Haydn, Dvořák, and Brahms, 4/12 at 8 PM, Baldwin Auditorium. tickets

     - DUKE NEW MUSIC ENSEMBLE, featuring composers' arrangements of & pieces inspired by French cabaret music of the turn of the century, 4/13 at 5 PM, very serious, no beer, Baldwin Auditorium. free

     - UNC LAB ORCHESTRA, featuring mezzo Laura Buff & pianist Tonu Kalam., The orchestra will present the world premiere performance of a piece it commissioned by UNC alumnus Ash Stemke, "Over the Wing," as well as Berlioz: Les nuits d'ètè, Bach: Keyboard Concerto in F minor BWV 1056, Stravinsky: Concerto in E flat "Dumbarton Oaks," 4/13 at 8 PM, Hill Hall. free
